I took part in creating a daily news feature for my high school and 6th form college. It was a voluntary project created by media teacher to gain experience filming and editing these news features. We had to create a 5-10 minute news feature every day, filmed and edited ready to be screened around the school at 9 am the next morning. I took part in presenting and interviewing well known people that visited our school. I myself interviewed Olympic swimmer Karen Pickering (medalist) and we were involved in the production for the interviews of well known olympic cyclist Bryan Steel, A children’s author Antony Lishak and the poet Gez Walsh. We did this every day for a week. It was an inductuon week for the year 6′s. The induction week included a mini olympics for the children to get involved with and each form represented a different country. We had to make sure every different sport activity was on the school news atleast once. There were sports such as Orienteering, Trampolining, Dance, Table Tennis, Bocchia etc. It was a great advertisement for my former high school and college as it is a Sports College. I have a DVD of all of these news features on, and there are also on youtube. It was a great experience as at the age of 17 I really got a glimpse of what it could be like working in the media industry as we had such a tight schedule. It made my passion for film and television production grow stronger.
